Hiring Two Summer Interns

ASC is pleased to announce that we are hiring two summer interns — a policy intern and a social media intern. These positions are intended for undergraduate students who are able to work remotely for six or more weeks this summer. Applications are due by March 31.

Position Specifics
Location: Remote; open to individuals located anywhere within the US and territories
Duration: Start and end dates are negotiable
Compensation: $17 per hour
Please note that, due to the remote nature of this position, the chosen candidate will need to possess and utilize their own computer and have access to the internet and a workspace.
About America’s Service Commissions (ASC)
America's Service Commissions is a nonprofit, nonpartisan association representing and promoting the 52 state service commissions across the United States and territories with the mission to lead and elevate the state service network. State service commissions are governor designated public agencies or nonprofit organizations made up of more than 1,000 commissioners, private citizens leading the nation's service movement and administering more than 75 percent of the federal AmeriCorps funds to address pressing community needs.
Responsibilities and Expected Deliverables
The main function of this position will be to support and advance public policy efforts at both the state and federal levels in the national service field. This work will include, but is not limited to, the following tasks.
  • Research and compile briefs for various issues relevant to the national service field.
  • Work with the ASC policy team to monitor issues relevant to national service.
  • Support ASC’s public policy coalition, States for Service (S4S), by participating in calls and taking on action items related to S4S.
  • Identify opportunities to grow and expand the States for Service audience and reach, including potential collaborations with influencers, organizations, or brands.
As the FY2024 appropriations process progresses and the FY2025 process begins, opportunities to engage with legislative offices may arise.
Desired Experiences and Qualifications
  • Ability to work in a remote environment
  • Interest in and familiarity with the legislative process (federal and/or state)
  • Excellent written communication skills
  • Ability to conduct research and evaluation, including data analysis, with little supervision
Helpful Experiences and Qualifications
  • Previous public policy experience

The main function of this position will be to develop a proposal for ASC’s future social media strategy. This project will include, but is not necessarily limited to, the following tasks.
  • Evaluate ASC’s current social media presence, both qualitatively and quantitatively.
    • Is our content modern and compelling?
    • Are we reaching our intended audiences?
    • Track and analyze social media metrics to evaluate the performance of campaigns and content.
    • Report on key social media metrics, such as reach, engagement, and follower growth.
  • Research various peer nonprofit organizations’ social media strategies.
  • Identify opportunities to grow and expand our audience and reach, including potential collaborations with influencers, organizations, or brands.
  • Compile examples of posts and content we could or should be incorporating into our strategy.
  • Create samples of new content based on your research and evaluation.
  • Develop a proposed strategy for an organizational TikTok account.
If time allows, this position may also be involved with creating content — including images, graphics, videos and/or captions — to be posted on our social media channels during the timeframe of the internship. Please keep in mind that all posts must be approved by the Marketing & Communications Manager.

  • Ability to work in a remote environment
  • Experience with all major social media platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn, and TikTok
  • Excellent written communication skills
  • Ability to conduct research and evaluation, including data analysis, with little supervision

  • Video production and editing skills
  • Graphic design skills
